So let me tell you about my interesting weekend.....Me and my boyfriend went camping this weekend in Sedona, we were at this beautiful site called Cave Springs. When we got there....they only had 3 spots available out of 82 sites....my boyfriend was not really excited about doing the whole campgrounds camping with the sites so close together. I reminded him that last year we camped at a free camping grounds where their was very few campers....so this year we were doing it my way! So were setting up camp and this guy was walking by with his dog....I think it was an Akita wolf looking dog...anyways, I asked him if I could pet his beautiful giant dog....and our dog was going crazy trying to say hi to him. So we talked with this very cool hippy looking guy, and he informed us that when the sun hits the ridge to put our dog away because of the skunks........I was like SKUNKS????? He said that they rule the camp as soon as it starts getting dusk......he also told us about a few really cool swimming holes, so we explored and found these clear water swimming springs.......wow!!! I was in heaven.....I jumped a few times off of a small cliff into the very refreshing cold spring water, and when I dried off, I couldn't believe how soft my skin and hair felt!!! Natures beauty tricks.....I loved it! So we go back to camp and realize it's starting to get dark, so we start a fire and I noticed that my dog was wining a little and kept looking over in the shrub behind our tent......he was chained, so I wasn't worried about him taking off......well just as I sat down to relax, my dog goes flying behind the tent, breaking the collar from the chain.......barking and then I heard a squeal and he came running back into the campsite and his eyes were squinted and I smelt it right away!!! One of those little skunks sprayed my Sammy!!! I was pissed off, because I came to relax and get away from stress and here I am having to deal with a smelly dog!!! So we were warned and we didn't think he was serious....that night, we saw that little skunk hanging out behind our tent like he was waiting for us to go to bed.....we put away our food and went to bed. Through the night, we kept hearing little sounds.....but neither one of us wanted to peek our head out of the tent in fear of a skunk spraying us! So I wake up the next morning and went out to find that those little stinkers got into our ice chest....stole our chicken that we had cooked...how nice of them to leave a couple of pieces for us....but then again, it was really spicy chicken....hahaha....I did notice they were into our dogs water to.....lol, they will be spraying fire now with how spicy we had made that chicken! So we were suppose to stay one more night and I just wanted to go home.....what an experience that was! Also, I had talked to a couple of the campsites and they all had skunks coming into their sites also......they don't mess with people, unless you threaten them....but they will bomb your dog with a smile on their face and take your food if you leave it out. Our ice chest doesn't have a lock on it.....and skunks are pretty smart and fearless creatures, so be careful this time of year when you go camping! Lesson well learned here.....
